Sun Drenched Villa

-Studio 2 Architects

A classic villa turned modern, family home, that places emphasis on the importance of natural light and comfortable living. this house makes the most of its space, with the generous deck flowing into the immaculate kitchen, perfectly accommodating the entertaining requirements of a family.

A full renovation of a floor in this 1926 building first involved removal of the lowered ceilings, narrow corridors, shiny lino floors, plywood doors and poor lighting from the 80s.
Removal of the wooden box frames from the 1920s ceiling beams revealed a unique wood-grain like texture in the concrete that was emulated in additional areas of concrete through use of the same type of wooden framing.

The kitchen space is well defined and modern. Clean, uncomplicated materials allow the different elements of the kitchen to flow together and give an innately contemporary feel, without compromising the homely atmosphere.

The home has been treated to a loving restoration by the builders, with mindful timber work seen throughout the front of the house. This is exhibited in the upstairs living room, where the beautiful villa meets a luxurious twist, with decadent crystal lighting conversing with Kauri flooring and vintage led light windows.

A mixture of sophisticated America Oak and natural stone keep the bathrooms in touch with the rest of the home’s presence and memorable feel.

A large part of one of the external brick walls was taken down to create a sunny external deck area with brick balustrade and a bank of large sliding doors.
Open plan office spaces and polished concrete floors throughout give a sense of continuity to the office and a look much more in keeping with its art deco heritage.

A classic villa turned modern, family home, that places emphasis on the importance of natural light and comfortable, open living, this house is an oasis.
